Slow internet? We’ve all been there. You’re watching an awesome YouTube video, and at the best part, it starts buffering. Or maybe you’re trying to update an app and it just won’t finish updating. Whatever it is, a slow internet connection can be such an inconvenience. With all the technology our phones have, one would think slow internet is a problem of the past. The good news is that there are ways you can increase internet speed. The tips below will help you get to faster internet, especially if you own a Samsung or another Android.
When you browse the internet, your phone keeps certain information for your later use. That information can include images, files, and other information that can help make you browse faster. This is referred to as cached data, and it’s kept in your phone’s storage. But cached data can actually slow down your browsing experience. So, if your internet speed is too slow, consider clearing your cache. To do that open your Android Settings, scroll down to Storage, then go to Cached Data. From there you can unload your cached files for increased internet speed.
It’s a fact that pop-up ads are annoying. Add to that, they slow down your internet too. When an ad pops up on your phone, it shares the same data you’re using. This causes the pages you’re trying to access to slow down. But there is a way to stop pop-ups from standing between you and increased internet speed. While there is no direct option in your phone’s settings to block pop-ups, you can do it from your browser. Generally, your browser’s settings will have an option to block pop-ups. Otherwise, there are pop-up blockers you can download from the Play Store.
There are lots of fun apps out there. So naturally, many of us want to check out what they’re about. But many times they just sit thereafter the first or second use. What you don’t know is that too many apps on your phone slow down your internet speed. Apps slow down the processing of your phone as a whole, and naturally, your internet speed suffers as well. To ensure increased internet speed, offload any unused apps. If you’re unsure what an “unused app” is, ask yourself this question: when did I last use it? If it’s been more than three months, then it’s a go.
This might be a little tricky since not all Wi-Fi connections are safe. But in a place where that is the case, you should opt for using Wi-Fi instead of your data. For one, you get to save your gigabytes. But most importantly, Wi-Fi connections usually use lots of megabits, which means a faster internet connection. But, as we said earlier, don’t just connect to any Wi-Fi network. Make sure it’s trusted, like your work or home Wi-Fi.
Of course, there are many other ways you can increase your Android’s internet speed. You can download a faster browser than the one that came with your phone. You can also adjust your phone’s network settings to ensure that you’re connected to the fastest network. Or you can use speed boosters for your Android. But be careful about this last one. The verdict on speed boosters is pretty split. Many booster apps claim that they boost the speed of your phone. However, they neglect to mention that what they do can be done manually. For example, booster apps automatically empty your phone’s cache, something which you can do by yourself. Add to that that the apps themselves use up memory space on your phone. So it’s up to you to decide which one is more important: automation or saving memory space.
No matter what you decide, don’t settle for a slow internet connection. If you have a newer model smartphone, you should have a fast internet. If that’s not the case, try one of the tips above for faster internet speed.
